1.31 School-Wide Environmental Behavior Changes
Two Sided Copying: Teachers are always happy to use both sides of the paper when making copies. A reminder (see below) to use both sides when copying is in front of the Konica.
Task Lamps:
Instead of overhead lights, teachers will use lamps to reduce the amount of energy being used.

Water Conservation Toilets:
All students, staff, and community have an option to flush with less or more water. This reduces the amount of water wasted in the restrooms.

Movement Sensor Lighting: All classroom lights turn off when there is no movement in the classroom, however, students are also given the job of turning off the lights when they leave. The students created reminders to place at every light switch in the school.
1.32 Systemic Partnership
As part of our garden initiative we had to create a well thought out plan to be approved by the Board of Education. A blue print and meetings with Greg Connor, from the Howard County Public School System, were required prior to the start of the project. After approval, Home Depot was contacted and generously offered a discount on the cost of the project. Also, additional costs were covered by our magnificent HES PTA. Greg Walsh led this initiative along with Belinda Miller and the Environmental Clubs in grades 2-5. The attachment below includes the blueprint, safety precautions, and funding for the garden that now produces a harvest of fresh vegetables in the spring and countless hours of learning.
