Our Top Five
When students, staff, and community of Hammond Elementary School were interviewed about the ongoing Green School programs, they overwhelming mentioned the "Top Five" listed below! It was obvious that these five accomplishments will always leave a strong impact on the lives of many.
- Instructional Practices - Everyday, environmental issues such as dissecting owl pellets, analyzing erosion, observing the life cycles of butterflies, and testing the health of local streams are embedded into instruction.
- HES Environmental Clubs - Grades 2 through 5 have environmental clubs preparing young students to be stewards of the Earth.
- HES Gardens and Art Based Projects - Students designed, run, and maintain abutterfly garden and working garden as well as designing and creating a glass mural.
- Reduce/ Reuse/ Recycle - Programs throughout the school encourage all staff and students to reduce, reuse, and recycle throughout the day.
- Habitat Happenings - The study of living organisms such as trout, larva, worms, butterflies, frogs, praying mantis, and birds engages all students throughout the grades.
